Ready To Lead, Ready & Prepared To Serve

Message Press Conference     for   Release: July   7, 2007

I stand before you humbled and full of gratitude for the support and friendship we have shared since I began my political journey in 1995. I was driven by one simple mission: to be the voice on your issues, I am driven by that same mission today to be your voice, representing your issues in Tallahassee.

There will never be another 07/07/07 for years to come. For me “7” Seven has two edges and for me it represents completion and beginning. It is a beginning of another level of service for me. Today we celebrate the day that the Lord has made. Today all over the world there will be live Earth Concerts to create the awareness that we need to protect the environment and in Florida we should do our part to protect our piece of paradise and preserve our quality of life, our land, our air, our water, the integrity of our educational system, our industries. We must protect the fabric of our community for generations to come.

I WILL WORK TO PROTECT OUR QUALITY OF LIFE.

This week we celebrate the 231st anniversary of the founding of the United States. I am proud to call myself an American.  We must work together, black and white, young and old, those born here and those who come from other nations to make what Dr. Martin Luther King called the “beloved community”.

I am the daughter of a strong and proud Jamaican woman.  My mother, Mrs. Eulalee Bax is the Matriarch of our family and she wanted the best for her three children.  She worked hard, voted and today is very active at 76.

In 1961 John F. Kennedy SAID “Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country”.  Today I answer:
I am ready to lead, AND I am ready to serve!  Today I announce that I am a candidate for Florida House of Representatives, District 94.

I am running because I have the experience and the qualifications and I have prepared myself for this day. Late in my term as president of the League of Cities I began to look at my options in the 2008 election cycle and seriously focused on District 94 because it would be a open seat.  For 11 years I have served the residents of Lauderdale Lakes and by extension this district.

In 2004, elected officials from the 31 member cities elected me President of the Broward League of Cities.  I traveled to Tallahassee with my colleagues to fight for our fair share of the State budget and to amplify the needs of local government and local control by cities and county.  Ladies and Gentlemen all,   I know that I can make a difference in the State Capitol.  The current debate on what to do about property tax and other state issues will be better advanced by having a local elected official who is engaged in solutions surrounding the day-to-day challenges of our communities.

As the Vice Chair of the Broward Charter Review Commission, we are reviewing what works and what changes if ANY are necessary to meet the need of our county and prepare us for internal and global challenges of the 21st Century.

I want to assure the residents of Lauderhill, Margate, North Lauderdale, Tamarac, Oakland Park, Sunrise and Plantation that I will bring the kind of advocacy and leadership to the ENTIRE 94TH District, THAT has been my commitment over these 11 years of service in Lauderdale Lakes and Broward County.

I intend to be victorious on August 26.2008 and I will need your help to succeed.
I AM READY TO LEAD, and I AM PREPARED AND READY TO SERVE.
ARE YOU READY TO JOIN THIS TEAM?

Ladies, gentlemen, young & young a heart, join me as I take our issues to the floor of the capital.

I thank you for your show of support and over the next few months I will continue to listen and will outline my plans that will effect change and provide measurable results for our district, county and state.
